History

Christ Church Anglican announced its formation on August 30, 2007, in order to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” A biblically orthodox church, Christ Church proclaimed the historic faith once delivered along with its intent to worship in the Anglican tradition.

Christ Church was quickly accepted under the jurisdiction oversight of the Anglican Church of Uganda which is a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi is primate of the Province, but domestic oversight for the parish came through Ugandan Bishop for Congregations in America, the Right Reverend John Guernsey, who is also rector of All Saints’ Church in Woodbridge, Virginia.  We are now part of the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA) and the Diocese of Western Anglicans!

At its founding, the parish claimed 175 faithful, most of whom were former members of Christ Church of the Ascension, Paradise Valley, AZ, a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona.  The new Church was formed because its founders remained steadfast and loyal in their commitment to Holy Scripture, the historic teachings of Christianity and the Anglican Communion.

Members of Christ Church Anglican researched and prayed about starting a new Anglican Church in Phoenix when they realized that many members of Episcopal parishes in addition to their own were seeking a place to glorify God, uphold Holy Scripture, raise their children to love and serve Jesus Christ, and share the Gospel with the world.

A committee was formed to begin the search for a rector of Christ Church.

Christ Church Anglican worship services were held Sundays at 9:00 am at 5811 N. 20th St., Phoenix, AZ 85016, the church campus vacated by Living Streams when it moved to a larger location in downtown Phoenix. This location is still our parish home.

The Inaugural worship service was on Sunday, October 7 at 9:00 AM followed by a hospitality reception.
In December, 2007, Christ Church called its first Rector, The Reverend Christopher Michael Schutte. Fr. Schutte was formally installed as Rector by Bishop John Guernsey on May 5, 2008.

Since its founding, Christ Church has grown with average Sunday attendance of 250.
