Christian Formation
The mission of Christian Formation is to create opportunities for adults, youth and children to grow in their Christian faith through Christ-centered learning and fellowship.
It is a new and emerging ministry at Christ Church Anglican which is being led by both clergy and laity. Programs being planned are modular in nature and feature foundational as well as more advanced elements. They are designed to offer different formats in varied environments throughout the year. Some programs will be offered on Sunday mornings, others during the week on the church campus, and still others will be hosted in private homes.
Programs are being designed for children, youth, college age and young adults, men, women, couples, married adults and singles. One particular area of interest is intergenerational opportunities where growing together in faith allows us to appreciate our oneness in Christ and supersede age or life stage.
Potential topics include: individual or family faith disciplines, Bible studies, stewardship, outreach, spiritual gifts, church history, Christians past and present, Anglicanism, church seasonal program for Advent or Lent, Alpha, newcomers programs, family life and life changes such as marriage, parenting, dating, grief, empty nesters, aging parents, church music, social events including small group dinners, hiking, church picnics, and finally special events such as quiet days, teaching days, healing seminars, and retreats.

The Benedictines – This class is for anyone interested in monasticism outside of the monastery. In this series, we will examine aspects of Benedictine life, including Benedict himself, the Rule, prayer, lectio divina and much more. In some of the sessions, participants will have the opportunity to experience for themselves some of the spiritual practices discussed. Facilitated by Victor Meijers ( vmeijers@cox.net )
Bible Study on the Beatitudes – The beatitudes reveal to us eight qualities that bring God's blessing: meekness and mercy, poorness in spirit and purity of heart, mourning and hunger, peacemaking and persecution. Jesus highlighted these to offer both encouragement and instruction on living distinctly as his followers in a world with values much different from God's. A study guide by John Stott, that contains inductive study questions, application, commentary, and prayer helps will be used. Facilitated by Dale Westervelt (dswestervelt@gmail.com )
Love & Respect series for Couples – In Ephesians 5:33, Paul encourages husbands to love their wives and wives to respect their husbands. This series is based on the book and conference by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. Couples will learn about how “Pink” and “Blue” see and hear the world differently and how each communicates in his or her own way. Participants will also discuss “The Crazy Cycle,” “The Energizing Cycle” and “The Rewarded Cycle.” Each session will consist of a DVD study followed by discussion and prayer. Facilitated by Ryan and Jill Taylor: (rtaylor@christchurchphoenix.org )
Childcare will be provided. Come for supper and study or just study, but don’t miss these great options to grow in Christ together.
